New Photocopiers and the Environment
Friday, 05 December 2008 15:38
In September 2008 the iR3225, iR3235 and iR3245 photocopiers were released by Canon. These new machines have reached new levels of power and efficiency whilst having a reduced impact on the environment and reduced running costs.
The Canon iR32xx series of photocopiers, which includes the iR3225N, iR3235N and iR3245N, can offer a number of improvements which can go some way to lessening their environmental impact when compared to older models. The standby power consumption has been reduced on these new devices, to just 1.5w, which is a large improvement when compared to some older photocopiers which had a standby power consumption of up to 690w.
As well as low standby power consumption, this range of models also uses Canon's on demand fixing technology which allows the device to automatically switch into sleep mode when not in use. This means that the devices do not waste as much power when not in use and, as they are ready to use again in just a few seconds, the automatic switching to sleep mode causes little inconvenience to the user. To further reduce environmental impact the iR3225N, iR3235N and iR3245N adhere to strict environmental standards such as RoHS, restricting the use of hazardous substances and the toner "charging process" employed means that there is no ozone produced.
Optional i-send on these devices allows the user to email direct from the printer and work flow to be streamlined. This means that there is less need to print unnecessary copies of documents when they can be sent electronically instead, saving on consumables such as paper and ink. The iR32xx series of multifunctional devices, along with many other Canon machines, have automatic double sided printing as standard, which can reduce paper consumption by up to a 40 percent, further reducing printing costs.
These new models incorporate an improvement in MEAP (Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform) performance. This technology allows new and customised applications to be incorporated into the photocopier directly so that performance improvements can be quickly released without changes to the interface. The first copy out time has also been improved with a copy out time of less than 3.9 seconds for the iR3235N and iR3245N models and less than 4.9 seconds for the iR3225N.
The improvements that can be seen in the iR3225N, iR3235N and iR3245N have been made to make them more environmentally sound as well as more efficient, two aspects that can go hand in hand in helping to create the best machine possible which has as little environmental impact as possible and can lower running costs.
